PROMIS provides clinicians efficient, reliable, and valid assessments of adult and
child self–reported health including ability to function, symptoms, feelings
and perceptions; all measures are based on a rigorous methodology.
PROMIS measures can be used as primary or secondary endpoints in clinical studies
of the effectiveness of treatment. They are particularly important to evaluating
the effectiveness of health care for conditions which have no cure; since for these,
the goal of therapy is to improve patients’ abilities to function and to reduce
symptoms associated with the condition. PROMIS enables clinicians to describe the
implications of therapy to patients' lives including what they are able to do and
how they feel.
