Assessment Center

 Is Here!

                                       ASSESSMENT CENTER

Assessment Center SM is a dynamic application that will allow researchers to centralize all research activities. Assessment Center SM includes features that promote instrument development, study administration, data management, and storage of statistical analysis results.

Assessment Center SM will aid in the selection, development and administration of research measures.  Patient-reported outcome instruments developed through the PROMIS Network are the basis for the Assessment Center SM Item and Instrument Library.

Users will be able to review PROMIS instruments by previewing them as they would appear in data collection and/or with CAT details.  Users may also download PDF versions of the PROMIS instruments.  The PROMIS short forms and computer adaptive tests (CATs) may be administered to study participants via Assessment Center SM.  Additionally, users can create their own PRO instruments through selecting or modifying existing items and/or creating new items.

Item development histories and Item/Instrument statistics are viewable for all PROMIS products.  Users may define data collection elements in Assessment Center SM and create study-specific websites to administer PRO measures and consent forms.  Users may manage data collection through accrual reports and participant registration screens.  Assessment Center SM will enable users to export study data to external applications for analysis.

The PROMIS Statistical Coordinating Center will be sponsoring workshops to help researchers understand IRT, CAT and use of Assessment Center, a web-based software application developed under the PROMIS collaborative project. Workshops are currently being offered on:

* Wednesday, September 10 (Bethesda, Maryland)
This is a pre-ICOM conference workshop "Introduction to PROMIS, Item Response Theory, Computerized Adaptive Testing, and Using Assessment Center Software for Clinical Research". For more information go to http://www.icom-2008.org/workshops/promis_fs.htm

* Tuesday, October 21 or Wednesday, October 22 (TBD; Montevideo, Uruguay)

* Monday, December 15, 2008 (Chicago)

Registration information for the October 21st and December 15th workshops will be available this summer.  For questions, contact assessmentcenter@enh.org

A beginner workshop with NO FORMULAS! This workshop is for people who would like to gain a basic understanding of Item Response Theory (IRT) and Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT). Attendees will become familiar with basic IRT terminology, what it is, how it works, and how IRT compares to classical test theory. The fundamentals of CAT will be discussed. Attendees will also learn what is required to create and administer CAT. This workshop is appropriate for researchers with little knowledge or experience with IRT and/or CAT.  Pre-requisites: None.

Assessment Center is a dynamic application that allows researchers to centralize all research activities.  It includes features that promote instrument development, study administration, data management, and storage of statistical analysis results.  This workshop is a practical introduction to using Assessment Center to deliver PROMIS short forms and CAT and/or develop independent instruments for computer-based delivery. All features of Assessment Center will be demonstrated including selecting existing PROMIS measures, creating new measures, setting up a study for online administration including the creation of online consent forms and exporting data. Attendees are required to bring a laptop computer with wireless connectivity (workshop fee includes wireless access charges). Pre-requisites: "Basics of IRT and CAT" workshop or basic knowledge of IRT and CAT recommended.

Features of Assessment Center utilize Adobe Reader and Excel.  It is recommended that you have these applications on your laptop.
